37th FIFF to review works by Ali-Akbar Sadeqi

The 37th Fajr International Film Festival (FIFF) has set to review restored versions of six animated movies by veteran Iranian animator Ali-Akbar Sadeqi.

The animations will be screened at the Preserved Classics section of the event, the Institute for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCYA) announced on Sunday.

All produced by the IIDYA, the restored titles are ‘Golbaran’, ‘Zal and Simorgh’, ‘Seven Cities’, ‘Rook’, ‘Malek Khorshid’ and ‘I Am Whom’.

Sadeqi, 82, is a graduate of art from the University of Tehran. His style of painting is Iranian surrealism based on traditional forms and compositions.

The Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art paid tribute to Sadeqi by holding retrospective of his inspirational artworks in painting, illustration, animation and sculpture last year.

Moreover, five Iranian movies from the 1980s have been selected to go on screen at the Preserved Classics section.

The 80s titles are ‘The Runner’ (1984) by Amir Naderi, ‘Talisman’ (1986) by Dariush Farhang, ‘Cold Roads’ (1986) by Masoud Jafari-Jozani, ‘The Scout’ (1988) by Ebrahim Hatamikia, and ‘The Last Act’ (1989) by Varuj Karim-Masihi.

The films have been restored in cooperation with the National Film Archive of Iran and the IIDCYA.

Headed by Iranian filmmaker Reza Mirkarimi, the 37th FIFF will be held in the capital, Tehran, on April 18-26, 2019.

A national version of the Fajr Film Festival (FFF) kicked off on January 30 and wrapped up on February 11.

Since its establishment in 1982, the festival has played vital roles in the development of Iranian Cinema.
